Since 1997/1998

... how it all began ...

In Obertauern water is almost as precious as gold. At the time our great-grandfather lived here the water supply network in Obertauern was not that well developed and didn't extend as far as his land. After a long search and digging in the 50s, he therefore found a spring, on land which had served as meadows for his alpine farming. And thanks to this we are still today, here in the heart of the Tauern, independent from the local water supply and general water resources.

After his training and 10 years spent working as a structural engineer, grandpa Franz dedicated himself, already early on, to many of his own projects. The Hotel GLÖCKNERIN was built in 1996/1997 based on his plans and opened in 1997/1998. Since then there have been numerous renovations and refurbishments and a few years ago we built the panoramic breakfast room.

Since 2008 we have set ourselves the goal of building as much as possible, in so far as technically and officially permitted, in solid timber. Because we love the living climate that wooden construction creates. It is an incredibly good living quality which creates warmth in the room.

More than 50% of our beds have now been built in solid wood – with the goal that all our guests will be able to enjoy the great living climate created by wood in the future. Our employees are already able to enjoy this as our new staff house has also been fully constructed out of wood.

A further major environmentally-friendly pioneering project was realised in 2012 when we built our own third combined heating and power facility. The Hotel GLÖCKNERIN as well as the family-run restaurant HERZENSLUST and Hotel TAUERNHERZ became the first establishments in Obertauern to be fully self-sufficient in terms of energy. All Huber family operations can therefore now be fully supplied with heat from our own plant. With the latest filter and flue gas systems, the wood chip plant is fed with local wood.

Grandpa Franz is our visionary, architect and building owner who still oversees all the technology. He’s also responsible for the ski lift and piste management of all our operations.

Grandma Johanna is the kind soul who fully embodies warm hospitality and is the person behind our delicious breakfasts which our guests love every morning. Every day she brings home-made jams, delicious cakes and many other delectable delicacies to the buffet.

Franz jr is the hotel boss, host & liqueur sommelier. He makes sure that the bar serves only the finest drinks and manages the hotel with great skill and foresight. And, as tourism representative of Obertauern, he is always up to date on everything that’s going on in the region.

Nadine is in charge of the reception desk and the charming check-in guide. She has a great love of detail from the smart design to cosy hotel comfort.
